Stately Home, Oxfordshire Asbestos Removal Case Study
Project overview
City Environmental Services (UK) Ltd was appointed by a confidential client to undertake licensed asbestos removal works at their private residence prior to a major full multimillion pound refurbishment. The project involved the careful removal of asbestos thermal pipe insulation from concealed floor and ceiling voids throughout the property as part of a wider programme of refurbishment works.
Scope of works
• Removal of asbestos thermal pipe insulation from floor voids throughout the property.
• Removal of asbestos thermal pipe insulation from ceiling voids, service routes and associated concealed areas.
• Controlled cleaning and safe disposal of associated asbestos debris and contaminated waste arising from the works.
THE CHALLENGE
The works were undertaken within a substantial historic property where much of the asbestos insulation was concealed within restricted floor and ceiling voids. Access, protection of the existing building fabric and careful sequencing were central to the programme, with numerous work areas requiring controlled access and close coordination with the wider refurbishment team.
HOW CES DELIVERED
CES developed a phased programme of licensed asbestos removal using controlled enclosures, negative pressure equipment and strict decontamination procedures. Work areas were progressed systematically through the building, with careful access arrangements for confined voids and independent analytical support used to verify conditions and clearance before areas were handed back for follow-on works.
Safety and quality controls
The project was managed under fully controlled licensed conditions, with regular site inspections, independent air monitoring and analytical clearance of completed work areas. Particular attention was given to maintaining enclosure integrity, protecting the historic building fabric and ensuring each phase was left clean and suitable for the next stage of the refurbishment programme.
Project outcome
The asbestos removal package was completed within the 16-week programme, allowing the wider refurbishment works to continue as planned. The project demonstrates CES’s ability to deliver complex licensed asbestos removal within sensitive and challenging buildings, combining robust controls with a practical, phased approach to programme delivery.
CLIENT FEEDBACK
“CES managed a technically challenging asbestos removal package in a sensitive building extremely well. Their planning, communication and site controls were excellent throughout, and the team worked carefully around the existing fabric while maintaining the programme. We were very pleased with the standard of delivery and would be happy to work with them again.”
